Cagliari is the host of the opening race of the America’s Cup preliminaries.

Cagliari America’s Cup.  Huge news today (22nd January) as Cagliari has won the bid to host the America’s cup world series opening ceremony and preliminary races.  From the 4th to the 7th June 2015, the eyes of the world will be on the capital of Sardinia and the home of Marinanow.

Thanks to a historic agreement between the Regione Autonoma della Sardegna, the Comune di Cagliari, the Autorità Portuale, the Capitaneria di Porto, the Marina Militare and team Luna Rossa Challenge, the opening ceremony will be here for the first time ever.

The opening ceremony will be on 4th June.  The 5th will be an obligatory training day for the 6 teams involved: Oracle Team USA, Artemis Racing, Ben Ainslie Racing, Emirates Team New Zealand, Team France and of course Luna Rossa Challenge who have made Cagliari their base.

There then will be four regattas, two on the Saturday and two on Sunday.  However, all six teams will be in Cagliari from the 31st May to acclimatise themselves with the conditions.

This year the boats are 20m rigid winged Catamarans AC45 that have been modified so that they can go full foil which makes them look like they are flying.  We’ll provide more information when we get it but in the mean time, why not book a berth or a boat in Cagliari for that period and sea these amazing boats in action firsthand.
