This week, Marinanow invites you to discover a welcoming marina located in the beautiful historic town of Gijón: Puerto Deportivo Gijón, in the centre of the Asturian coast of Spain.
With a surface of 181.7 km2, the municipality of Gijón is conveniently located in the centre of the Asturian coast. The towns of Carreño, Llanera, Siero, Sariego and Villaviciosa are all nearby.
The impetuous Cantábrico sea embraces the city of Gijón and has defined the history of this beautiful village for over 5000 years.
Gijón preserves its Roman past through the interventions made in the Archaeological Park of Campa de Torres, one of the main fortified villages in northern Spain (built prior to 490 BC) and, above all, in the renovated Campo Valdes thermal complex, dating back in the late first century AD.
If you are interested in history, there are also a great number of Romanesque churches from the 12th and 13th centuries and numerous sites from the medieval times. The foundation of the Village in 1270 led to an urban expansion that was halted at the end of the 14th century. At this point, the Trastámara conflicts involving Gijón started and the town was almost completely destroyed.
Since the middle of the XIX century, following industrialization, the city began to radically change its appearance, transforming itself into the industrial centre of Asturias with the large port of El Musel, its shipyards and numerous industrial buildings.
More recently, Gijón has undergone progressive modernization and has excellent landscapes and environmental conditions. This combined with its important service sector, good cultural and sporting offering, means it attracts a growing number of visitors.
Puerto Deportivo de Gijòn
The Puerto Deportivo de Gijón is located in the city centre. This makes it convenient to reach and close to all the best services. On top of this, the European Foundation for Environmental Education has awarded the marina the Blue Flag since 1996. This means the marina meets the EFEA’s stringent sustainability standards.
The marina offers 780 berths distributed over four docks.
