Yesterday, Saturday 9th of September, The Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup & Rolex Maxi 72 World Championship, organized every year by the Costa Smeralda Yacht Club, reached its final day.

The winners of the various classes were: Momo (Maxi 72), Ribelle (Supermaxi), Highland Fling XI (Maxi), Galateia (Wally), Jethou (Mini Maxi R), Supernikka (Mini Maxi RC1) and H2O Mini Maxi RC2).

But one of the most interesting novelties of this edition was undoubtedly the participation of the boat Adelasia di Torres, so called in honor of Torres’s last ruling judge in 1200, sponsored by DHL.

The Project “Adelasia”

The M37 Adelasia di Torres, formerly Lo Noise, 3 times World Champion (Brindisi 2009, Cherso 2011 and Kiel 2014), 2 times European champion (Punta Ala 2012 and Valencia 2014) and 2 times Italian champion (Punta Ala in 2008 and Marina of Ravenna 2013) skipperd by Renato Azara, was placed in the Mini Maxi Racer class where it faced international champions defending the colours of his island.

The crew, made up of 22 top-rated sailors in the regional and national spheres, demonstrated courage, tenacity, determination and great teamwork that led them to complete the race obtaining a well deserved fourth place.

After the challenge in the international waters during The Sailing Arabia Tour in Oman, Adelasia and Hotel Cala di Volpe renewed their partnership at this event. The boat sponsored by the Sardinia Region and Oman Sail also had the support of numerous sponsors: Marina di Porto Cervo, Phi! Number, DHL and SYS (Sardinia Yacht Services), Savona Shipyard, Navigo Sardegna, Shardana Wind, Mannalita and Sailing Sardinia.

The participation at the Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup represented, for Adelasia di Torres and Cala di Volpe, the achievement of an important goal: a Sardinian boat that compares with the world’s largest sailing boat, giving a great visibility to the whole island in an international scenario.

Renato Azara, creator of the Adelasia Foundation, is deeply convinced that sailing can be an effective tool for tourism and economic promotion of the Sardinia Island and in this direction he founded this ambitious project.

In addition, the choice of not having a fixed crew also allows Sardinian sailors to compete with one of the world’s leading sailing competitions such as the Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup.

As the tactician Duccio Colombi, creator and founder of Phi!Number, has repeatedly explained, alongside technical expertise, what matters on board is teamwork and in this sense Phi!Number has selected the 22 crew members of Adelasia. Winner of 11 Italian championships in different sailing classes, 2 European championships and 4 world championships, all achievements with non-professional crews, Duccio once again demonstrated that the value of professionalism, determination and teamwork are the keys to an absolutely winning team.
