There are only a few days left till the beginning of the 28th edition of the Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup & Rolex Maxi 72 Worlds, which this year, runs from 3rd to 9th of September 2017.

The event, organized by the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda (Porto Cervo) in collaboration with IMA (International Maxi Association) and with the support of the sponsor Rolex, involves the top international shipbuilding and design talent.


The Regatta



There will be various types of racing boats in the Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup & Rolex Maxi 72 Worlds and all will be over 60 feet.  They will be divided into several categories according to their respective characteristics.

52 boats participated in the previous edition. These included the Maxi 72 class to the large Wally fleet and this year the participation will be even richer.

The biggest yacht this year will be the Viriella cruiser, 36 metres, while the most anticipated and competitive yacht will be Rambler, 27 metres long which won the Line Honors at the Rolex Fastnet Race. As well as  the 33 metre long Rebel and the Baltic 112 Nilaya.



Among the smaller boats are Arobas and Lorina 1895, two Swan 601s, 60′ Wallyno, day racer Specter, and Carroll Marine 60 Durlindana.

The Wally fleet will consist of 13 yachts and next to it, to represent the worldwide shipbuilding elite, we will also find Southern Wind and Nautor’s Swan.

Furthermore, don’t forget the 2016 winners that will defend their title by competing in a separate field: Bella Mente (Maxi 72 Class), Atalanta II, Wallyno, Open Season, Win Win.

Porto Cervo is a location of incomparable beauty and the event, organized in collaboration with Rolex, which has been repeated every year since 1980, is an unmissable appointment for all enthusiasts.


A September full of events



The Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup and the Rolex Maxi 72 World Championship mark the beginning of a September full of important sports events.

From the 12th to the 16th of September will take place the Audi J / 70 World Championship with its famous names including: American Catapult by Joel Ronning, Relative Obscurity and Savasana of Brian Kean. Then there will be Petite Terrible for Italy, brought by young Claudia Rossi, Carlo Alberini on Calvi Network and among the Corinthian White Hawk by Gianfranco Noè.

On September 10th, the YCCS 50th Anniversary Regatta will take place, with 20-foot yachts with ORC, ORCsy or IRC status certificates.

From September 22nd to the 24th, there’s the 3rd edition of the Audi Sailing Champions League, the final for the best yacht club teams that qualified throughout Europe in their national leagues.

Finally, from the 3rd to the 4th of October at the Teatro Franco Parenti in Milan, the Yacht Club will be involved in the “One Ocean Forum” with the participation of UNESCO and the SDA Bocconi Sustainability Lab. This important meeting, organized by Princess Zahra Aga Khan, Chairman of the Board of Directors Of the YCCS, will focus on the theme of marine and coastal environmental sustainability, masterfully marking the 50th anniversary of the Costa Smeralda Yacht Club.
