The 49th edition of Barcolana, the famous and crowded regatta, takes place every year on the second Sunday of October in the Gulf of Trieste.

Departure is scheduled for Sunday, October 8th, 2017 at 10 am.

On the starting line there are more than 1,500 boats, both professional sailors and amateur enthusiasts on boats of various sizes that are divided into categories depending on their overall length.

The event

The Barcolana, spectacular for the number of people and boats it attracts, this year aims to surpass 2000 subscribers.

The race course will be a 16-mile quadrilateral in the Gulf of Trieste: the starting line is between Miramare Castle and the Nautical Headquarters of Barcola and Grignano while the finish line is in the section of sea in front of Piazza Unità d’Italia.

But besides the the sailing event, Barcolana collects all the industrial activities of the territory that, during a ten-day period, from the 29th of September to the 8th of October, actively participate in what can be defined as a true celebration of the culture and traditions of the Trieste territory.

In the many stands that wind through the streets and alleys, you can taste wines, typical local products, admire the traditional craftsmanship and all in a worldly and engaging atmosphere that embraces the entire city.

The 2017 edition has a rich calendar of events, shows, music, and much more to frame the already rich atmosphere of these days.

In addition to the strong support of the local institutions – the FVG Region, the City of Trieste, the Port Authority, the Harbour Master’s Office, the XIV FIV Area – Barcolana has received this year the Patronage of the Ministry of Sport, operational support from the General Command of the Harbour and the active presence of the Italian Sailing Federation, recognition and actions that will enable further development of dissemination and training projects in the future.

The goal of this regatta, famous and loved all over the world, is not to win but to participate. Only here you will be able to see the world championships sailing together with family and friends crews with the only purpose of bringing together the participants and the territory in one great moment of sport and sharing.

Ten days in which the city of Trieste is dressed in languages, cultures and colours, an attraction that can not be missed!
